our lovely belizean "ride" 1987 Isuzu Trooper with 157,000 miles. Since we got this little jewel it has either been in the shop or needed to be in the shop. Currently, I think that the only thing that it needs is a new fuel pump - but it's early in the day and that could all change. By local standards it is a pretty nice vehicle and even though it is gasoline powered ($8.60 BZ per gallon) it is a very practical rig.  Posted by Hello

just another Belizean sunset - this is an amazingly beautiful place Posted by Hello

one nearly completed project is the well house - for various reasons the submersible pump that we originally put in the well was stolen, so we decided to secure its replacemant and create a safe storage building for the property. the view from the "crows nest" is pretty cool Posted by Hello

the gang at work - workers in Belize get paid between $25 - $50 Belize dollars per day ($12..50 - $25.00 US dollars) and they are VERY HAPPY to have a job / it breaks my heart to think about how hard they all have to work to just survive - but I didn't break it and I can't fix it, so I work at paying on the upper end of the local scale and trying to otherwise just be a positive part of their lives Posted by Hello

this morning's visitor Posted by Hello

This mornings visitor...........=)

Last night it was a search party from the neighborhood battalion of army ants (they left after about 1/2 hour) - and this morning it was a small terantula on the inside of the screen door - ..........................what a place!

The army ants ate every bug in sight and the terantuala is apparently harmless unless provoked (and I had no interest in provoking it, although I did encourage it to move to the other side of the screen)

This site has some really interesting info on the terantula:

There was an article in the 2003 (June 8) Awake! Magazine that talked about army ants.
